SunFlower Schoolhouse Campaign
Having recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of Sunflower School, we are excited to carry our cherished traditions into the future. The small, non-graded, arts-based school you’ve loved for decades still has children running around barefooted in our courtyard and practicing Shakespeare under the trees. But we are facing a challenge unlike any other in our history – the sale of our building.
Together, we can ensure SunFlower will serve children for another 50 years.
Our Schoolhouse Challenge
Gulfport Presbysterian Church, where we have rented space for 42 years, is dissolving and Sunflower has the opportunity to purchase this building. It’s a challenge we are ready to take on. Over the past two weeks, parents and staff have responded quickly by creating the SunFlower Schoolhouse Campaign, with the goal of raising $750,000 to purchase and improve the property.
We need your help to ensure Sunflower School can keep providing the inclusive, relationship and exploration-based education that focuses on the whole child here in the Gulfport community. Owning the building will allow us to expand our arts and theater program, build outdoor classrooms within a greener courtyard, and add new arts facilities onsite.
We are deeply committed to staying in our current location, where partnerships with Gulfport Public Library, Gulfport Food Forest, Walden School, Catherine Hickman Theater, the waterfront and Chase Park have been built over generations.
